International Space Station (ISS)

larger textsmaller text

The International Space Station (ISS) is a space based microgravity research facility being constructed on a low earth orbit since 1998. The 500,000 pound facility is roughly 200 X 150 feet with 15,000 cubic feet of livable space. The station maintains an orbit of approximately 210 miles above the earth. Moving at an average speed of about 17,000 miles per hour the ISS circles the Earth every 1.5 hours.iss

The ISS has been inhabited since November 2000 and has traveled over 1 Billion miles.

The International Space Station is an international collaboration involving the efforts of 16 countries including space agencies from the United States (NASA), Russia (RKA), Japan (JAXA), Canada (CSA) and several European countries (ESA).

Cimarron is supporting the development of the in-flight software for the International Space Station under contract to The Boeing Company Space Exploration Division. This work primarily involves completion of embedded, real-time avionics software. Cimarron engineers are involved in all aspects of the software delivery process.

In addition to providing a software engineering staff to develop the software components, we conduct the integration, verification, and flight qualification testing of these components in the Software Development and Integration Lab (SDIL). Cimarron provides the systems engineers who follow the software components through integration with the flight hardware, first in a laboratory setting, utilizing as much of the actual on-board hardware as is available. When possible, our engineers continue testing in the actual flight hardware at the Kennedy Space Center prior to launch on the Space Shuttle. Other engineers work in the lab developing simulations and other tools to support the various tests.

The contract is performed with processes appraised at the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 5.

Cimarron also provides Maintenance and Operations support to the SDIL under a separate contract to The Boeing Company. This contract includes management and coordination of day-to-day operations; logistics and shipping support; maintenance of all laboratory computers, test equipment and infrastructure; and systems administration and maintenance for laboratory computers, work stations, and networks.
